چکیده

We describe an automatic approach for evaluating interpretability of fuzzy rule-based classifiers. The approach is based on the logical view of fuzzy rules, which are interpreted as rows in truth tables. These truth tables are subject of a minimization procedure based on a variant of the Quine-McCluskey algorithm. The minimized truth tables are used to build new fuzzy rules, which are compared with the original ones in terms of classification accuracy. If the two sets of rules have similar performances, we deduce that the logical view of rules is applicable to the fuzzy classifier, which is hence considered interpretable. On the other hand, a significant difference in classification ability shows that fuzzy rules cannot be interpreted in logical terms, hence linguistic labelling may not be significant. Two illustrative examples show both the cases. Keywords— fuzzy rule-based classifiers, interpretability assessment, logic minimization, Quine McCluskey algorithm

Adaptability, interpretability and rule weights in fuzzy rule-based systems

This paper discusses interpretability in two main categories of fuzzy systems fuzzy rule-based classifiers and interpolative fuzzy systems. Our goal is to show that the aspect of high level interpretability is more relevant to fuzzy classifiers, whereas fuzzy systems employed in modeling and control benefit more from low-level interpretability. We also discuss the interpretabilityaccuracy trade...

Accuracy vs. Interpretability of Fuzzy Rule-Based Classifiers: An Evolutionary Approach

The paper presents a generalization of the Pittsburgh approach to learn fuzzy classification rules from data. The proposed approach allows us to obtain a fuzzy rule-based system with a predefined level of compromise between its accuracy and interpretability (transparency). The application of the proposed technique to design the fuzzy rule-based classifier for the well known benchmark data sets ...

Reliability Measures Measurement under Rule-Based Fuzzy Logic Technique

In reliability theory, the reliability measures contend the very important and depreciative role for any system analysis. Measurement of reliability measures is not easy due to ambiguity and vagueness which exist within reliability parameters. It is also very difficult to incorporate a large amount of uncertainty in well-established methodologies and techniques. However, fuzzy logic provides an...

Interpretability assessment of fuzzy knowledge bases: A cointension based approach

Computing with words (CWW) relies on linguistic representation of knowledge that is processed by operating at the semantical level defined through fuzzy sets. Linguistic representation of knowledge is a major issue when fuzzy rule based models are acquired from data by some form of empirical learning. Indeed, these models are often requested to exhibit interpretability, which is normally evalua...

Learning Fuzzy Classification Rules from Data

Automatic design of fuzzy rule-based classification systems based on labeled data is considered. It is recognized that both classification performance and interpretability are of major importance and effort is made to keep the resulting rule bases small and comprehensible. An iterative approach for developing fuzzy classifiers is proposed. The initial model is derived from the data and subseque...
